Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I completed my bachelor’s degree at Rhodes University majoring in Psychology & Sociology with an additional 3 years post grad at Vega Brand Communications School specialising in brand management and creative innovation. I completed my post grad whilst working as a junior brand manager for a funky vitamin brand, McNabs Vitamins. I knew I always wanted to be in marketing, and my psychology & sociology degree helped me to understand people, consumers, and the art of selling. It was a good combination really.
What previous experience do you have in the digital industry?
I moved to London in 2006 and have been working in digital marketing ever since. All in all, I have 7 years’ experience in planning and managing digital marketing campaigns with a strong focus on SEO. A lot has changed in that time.
My previous role was at eBay Inc’s Shopping.com, I was responsible for managing relationships with eBay’s top 100 retail merchants (such as Apple, Adidas, Argos and Debenhams), as well as cross-channel media and advertising agencies. I travelled to San Francisco regularly and was involved in some fantastic innovative projects.
Prior to that, I was a Lead Account Manager at Bigmouthmedia (Lbi), working with some of the agency’s largest SEO and cross-digital clients. During this time, I was responsible for developing strategies and managing numerous cross-digital campaigns for clients like Sky, Jumeirah, Barclaycard, Harley Medical, Stena Line and Aer Lingus.
Why do you enjoy working in digital?
I’m energetic and super curious with a genuine passion for digital marketing and technology as a whole. A bit of a tech geek, I am driven by the fast pace and the dynamic nature of our industry. I love working with clients, developing relationships, reaching and smashing goals. It feels good and everyone wins. No dull moments in digital… you gotta love that!
What is your role at MediaVision?
At MediaVision, I work as a Senior Strategist developing cross digital campaigns and strategies for clients including Jaeger, BLP Law, The British Chamber of Commerce and Bissell. Having worked in both client side & agency side roles across several industry sectors, I feel that I have good all round experience – especially from a customer / client services perspective. I do love the pace of agency world and the intimate nature of a smaller agency where we are all like family. The best part of the job is developing long lasting relationships with our clients where we are an extension of their team. We have some fantastic clients and that makes the hard work worthwhile.
Other credibility points?
Apart from blogging for MediaVision, I regularly cover industry events and live blog for State Of Digital.
Known in the office for being accident prone, i.e. locking myself in the bathroom and almost setting fire to the office.
Most likely to be found doing fun stuff with friends, dancing or exploring new places on the weekend
Bucket list items include: Wow, where to begin? Sky diving in Rio de Janeiro (I’m petrified of heights), diving the Great Barrier Reef, Inca trail in Peru, Amazon jungle adventure, see the Northern Lights in Iceland, surf in Indonesia, hula in Hawaii… to mention a few.
Party trick: Mmm… not very impressive but I can curl all my toes into a ball (kinda)… oh, and kung Fu throwing unsuspecting people at company parties.
Most embarrassing moment: tripping (and falling) on stage to accept my Sportswoman of the Year award in high school.
Favourite band/song: Bonobo
One interesting fact: I played provisional basketball in South Africa between the ages of 10-14 (Gauteng & Natal).
Favourite movie/TV show: Snatch
