The amount of times I’ve said to my Mum, “Yes Ma, I saw it on Twitter…” can’t actually be quantified. Twitter is more than a place for the globe to park their opinions, it can also be used to inform, update and educate those who follow trends.

Last week saw the launch of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. As citizens of the globe tuned in to watch the opening ceremony, Twitter was alight with tweets from Jamaica to South Africa. Twitter shifts into the market of mobile chat with their latest upgrade.

Twitter is stepping up the competition with WhatsApp as it starts to improve its direct messaging tool to work as a chat application. This comes after the ever-popular WhatsApp was bought by Facebook earlier this year.
